You’ve worked tirelessly on drafts of your story, consulting with a developmental editor, beta readers, or a trusted confidant to create a story for the ages. Now that the structure and overall message are where you want it to be, it’s time to fine tune each the story sentence by sentence.
This service includes feedback, corrections, and tools and resources on how to revise your story and improve as a writer. During this process, I will focus on preserving your tone and writing style while providing suggestions to enhance your writing through flow and consistency. Each suggestion will come with a reason for alteration.
I will focus on:
- Spelling, punctuation, grammer
- Sentence structure and flow
- Consistency in names, numbers, abbreviations, and capitalization
- Awkward or confusing phrasing
- Suggestions for better flow and readability
- “Show don’t tell” will be pointed out and suggestions given
- Basic fact checking
- Passive voice
- Address any POV or narrative voice issues
- Offer suggestions regarding excess filter words
- Check dialogue for formatting and dialogue tags
You will receive:
- The edited file including track changes in your preferred format
- An edited file with all track changes accepted for easy reading
- A style sheet
- This will include decisions on capitalization, abbreviations, numbering, etc along with basic details about main characters, locations, and other key details dependent on your story. This will help in keeping key details consistent throughout the whole book and potentially series.
- An editorial report
- This will provide direct feedback regarding strengths and areas to improve based on your narrative voice, point of view, sentence structure, and more. This report will help in the continued development of your craft.
- Access to further communication if there are any questions or if clarification is needed after receiving the editorial report
