Developmental and Line Edits

$.04 per word

Looking to plan ahead with your editing process? Scheduling developmental and line editing is a great way to do so. It sets you up with a timeline, budgetary savings, and an established relationship with your editor!

This is an extensive service that is broken into two parts. The first part includes your developmental edits which focus on content, plot, pacing, characters, narrative voice, and more! This process involves in-line comments and an in depth editorial letter. The goal is not to alter your voice or writing style, it is to create the strongest version of your story we possibly can!

The second portion of this service includes your line edits and has a flexible timeline. I want to make sure you have plenty of time to process your developmental edits and make any more changes you feel are necessary. We can develop the timeline to work best with your writing style!

I will Focus on:

  •
  • Developmental Edits
    • Character analysis
    • Narrative analysis, focused on narrative voice and structure
    • World building analysis
    • Analysis of story’s flow and pacing
    •  Standard manuscript formatting
  • Line Edits
    • Spelling, punctuation, grammer
    • Sentence structure and flow
    • Consistency in names, numbers, abbreviations, and capitalization
    • Awkward or confusing phrasing
    • Suggestions for better flow and readability
    • “Show don’t tell” will be pointed out and suggestions given
    • Basic fact checking
    • Passive voice
    • Address any POV or narrative voice issues
    • Offer suggestions regarding excess filter words
    • Check dialogue for formatting and dialogue tags

You Will Recieve:

    • An edited file with all track changes accepted for easy reading
    • A ten to thirty page editorial letter which includes analysis and critique of the manuscript
    • Feedback through in-line comments
    • Access to meetings with me regarding any questions or concerns once the editorial letter is sent over.
    •
  • Line Edits
    • The edited file including track changes in your preferred format (either Google Drive or Microsoft Word)
    • An edited file with all track changes accepted for easy reading

About Me

About Me

Hello! My name's Sam and I am a nonbinary (they/them) book lover, writer, and editor. I love all things books from thousand page long high fantasy to short romance novellas. Here you'll find a space to support readers and writers alike with book reviews, lists, writing prompts, and challenges. When I'm not lost in the pages of a book, I can be found with a cup of coffee, walking with my dog, and raving about N.K. Jemisin
